MACC report made against ex-state firm officer whom Hajiji dropped

A report has been lodged with MACC against a former senior officer of a state mining firm in Sabah who was alleged to have abused his power.

A source told FMT that the allegations were related to his relationship with a broker from Peninsular Malaysia.

The source claimed that the pair’s relationship started when the officer was with the Mineral and Geoscience Department.

The source claimed their “collusion” was brought to the attention of Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor, who then decided not to renew his contract.

The chief minister, the source added, was “deeply disappointed”.

“The termination of his contract also allowed for an investigation which found violations of good governance and abuse of power.

“To protect themselves, the former senior officer and the broker used intimidation tactics such as video recordings that were planned from the outset.

“They have collaborated with certain political parties to advance their agenda, and they have also tried to shield themselves by seeking protection under whistleblower legislation by acting as informants with the aim of protecting their crimes,” the source added.

The source said Hajiji refused to give in to these so-called extortion methods that started several months ago.

Although no names were mentioned, it is believed the report is linked to former Sabah Mineral Management (SMM) Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Jontih Enggihon and the anonymous whistleblower who has been threatening to expose a corruption scandal involving eight assemblypersons in the state.

Earlier today, Malaysiakini published a video leaked by the whistleblower which featured Enggihon accusing Hajiji of abusing his powers and favouring certain contractors.

However, there is no indication if a similar report would also be lodged against the whistleblower, who admitted to giving bribes to the assemblypersons.
